As an Office Manager for Customer Care at American Woodmark, Jennifer Frye has found herself a career in Human Resources (HR). She prides herself on treating people with dignity and respect along with her ability to keep things confidential. Frye wanted to keep the human aspect of Human Resources on the front lines in her company, and knew that her role as Office Manager could allow her to do that. She says she’s been fortunate to have managers who have supported her over the years and encouraged her to explore the programs offered through LFCC Workforce Solutions.
Frye’s passion for HR led her to the SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP Prep Course with Workforce Solutions, which prepared her even more for the workplace. She explains that “answers are not always black and white” in HR, so “you have to learn to be comfortable in the gray!” She credits her class for preparing her for these “gray” scenarios.
While she enjoyed the class she enrolled in, Frye really enjoyed her instructor and the setup of the course. She referred to her instructor, Cindy Hunter, as “fabulous” and explained that Hunter was able cover material effectively as well as allowing time for interaction between her students and herself. Frye enjoyed that Hunter encouraged the class to share their personal experiences in HR, and said she was able to learn from her classmates through their group interaction.
As a result of her training, Frye proudly says her class helped her in passing the SHRM-CP exam. She also mentioned she gained a personal sense of accomplishment along with a greater sense of respect amongst peers. If Frye could give advice to others thinking about completing this SHRM certification course, she would say “don’t be afraid – go for it.” The classes are affordable, convenient, and she ensures you will learn a lot and make lasting connections in the community.
