Nancy Lloyd Legacy Endowment

About the Nancy Lloyd Legacy Endowed Fund

Our region depends on a skilled workforce to remain competitive.  Laurel Ridge is grateful for the state and federal funding we receive to provide workforce training.  However, with private donations from businesses and individuals, we can do so much more.

That is why generous donors established the Nancy Lloyd Legacy Endowed Fund – in memory of LFCC’s former vice president of workforce development.   Nancy was sensitive to the financial needs of individuals and advocated tirelessly for quality workforce training programs that would strengthen our local economy.

Through donations to the Lloyd Legacy Fund, you can help LFCC’s Office of Workforce Solutions provide quality programming and financial assistance.  Individuals in our community need opportunities to improve their skills for their current job or for a better job, particularly in one of the region’s high-demand areas, such as advanced manufacturing and healthcare.

Last year, LFCC’s workforce department served more than 10,000 students. Some learned a new trade through apprenticeships and intensive “boot camp” style programs. Others sharpened their professional skills and earned new credentials through continuing education classes and special events like the Disney Institute, Leadercast and Administrative Professionals Day.

We also served 1,200 employers in our region — business and industry, as well as nonprofit organizations and our school systems.

About Nancy Lloyd

Nancy Lloyd was the former vice president of workforce development at Laurel Ridge Community College and served in the same role at Rappahannock Community College.

Her visionary style inspired many to follow in her footsteps of taking risks to build something new or make something better.  At the height of Stephen Covey’s success with the book “7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” Nancy wanted to invite him to speak at LFCC.  While others may have assumed Covey would be far too busy to travel to the Shenandoah Valley, Nancy picked up the phone and called.  He accepted her invitation!  Nancy’s infectious smile and laughter were always tied to her mantra of “just do it.”

She was an avid lover of education and lifelong learning and was a mentor to so many people.  She had the unique ability to move fluidly between the world of education and the world of business and to be effective in each.

Nancy brought an entrepreneurial spirit to education. She developed innovative training programs by identifying best practices in teaching and combining them with effective business principles.

In addition to her work with the community college system, Nancy also made significant contributions in the private sector and in the school system.  As a total quality manager at Lear Corporation, Nancy coached a team that was honored with a Best Quality Improvement Award from USA Today, beating all other nominees nationwide.  Her career also included teaching English at Clarke County High School and working with special education students in the Winchester City public school system.
