This course focuses on educating the massage therapist on appropriate massage techniques for cancer patients during the different stages of their cancer treatment (initial diagnosis, active treatment, recovery, hospice). These techniques reconnect cancer patients with their body. Additional topics covered will include: myths about massaging cancer patients; cautions and contraindications; various cancer treatments (chemotherapy, radiation, surgery) and their side effects; cancer drugs; medical device implants; neutropenic precautions; lymphedema precautions and lymphatic massage; scar tissue work using massage cups; and breast cancer massage before and after reconstructive surgery. The hands-on work and information provided during this course will help massage therapists feel more comfortable working with cancer clients.
