Electrical Utility Groundsman Program Description
This 4-week program offers the student the entry-level skills necessary to apply for an Electrical Groundsman job. In addition, LFCC’s training partner TCR provides job placement assistance for students who successfully complete the training and pass exams.
Career Overview for Electrical Utility Groundsman
Under the supervision of the linemen, a groundsman performs a variety of tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical distribution and transmission lines and equipment. Electrical groundsmen work mainly outdoors, tracing downed power lines and blown transformers. This type of work is needed in rural and urban areas all times of the year. Groundsman may be required to work in inclement weather any hour of the day or night to restore electric service to businesses and residents. The Groundsman position provides opportunities and pathways to becoming a Journeyman Lineman with employers.
Job Duties May Include:
- Providing tools, materials, and supplies to journeyman lineman;
- Driving trucks and ensuring they are properly stocked;
- Preparing equipment and worksite for effective completion of assignments; and
- Operating various types of equipment used in the construction process.
