Become a more efficient project manager. This series of courses gives you the skills to ensure you know who all of your project stakeholders are, what to plan to deliver the scope of your project, when your deadlines are throughout the process by developing an accurate and efficient schedule, and how to anticipate what could happen through mitigating the contingencies that may impact your success.

What will I learn in this series?

You will gain a working knowledge of the basics of project management and be able to immediately use that knowledge to effectively manage work projects. At the end of the series, you will be able to identify and manage the project stakeholders, build a workable project schedule, create a project plan, and identify and manage risks. All courses use the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).

Stakeholder Management: Identify, Prioritize & Understand your Stakeholders for Project Success!
January 20 | 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM

No project is an island. It has impact on and is impacted by stakeholders. Ever wonder what makes a good project or program manager? It is knowing who these stakeholders are and how to manage their involvement and expectations. This course is designed to introduce new project managers and remind experienced project leaders how to effectively and efficiently manage their project stakeholders. At the end, you will be familiar with how to identify internal/external stakeholders, plan stakeholder management, and manage their engagement, support, and involvement for project success!

Project Schedules: 6 Steps to a Project Schedule
February 3 | 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM

A key part of running a project is having a concise schedule that details all the steps needed to complete the project. While it’s popular belief that scheduling is easy and can be done along the way, that is rarely the case. In this course, you will learn to plan a project schedule, determine the action steps that need to be accomplished, and establish the order and time frame of the action steps. Then after building your schedule, you will learn how to track your steps to keep everything running on-time. This course is designed to help new project managers schedule their projects right and provide the experienced manager some new tricks. By the end of this class, you will be familiar with how to breakdown a project’s activities and build them into a workable schedule. (Note: This is not an MS Project course)

Project Management Plan: Plan the Work, Work the Plan!
February 17 | 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM

Everything works better when you have a plan. As a project manager, you’re responsible for preparing and planning to make sure your project goes right. In this course, we’ll touch on and highlight planning for the key project areas (scope, cost, schedule, quality, HR, communications, risk, procurement, stakeholder) identified by PMI. This course is designed to help the new project manager and experienced manager develop their strategy and project book for project success! By the end of this class, you will be familiar with how to plan, track, and control the areas within your project to execute the real activities more efficiently and effectively.

Risk Management: Identify, Analyze & Mitigate Project Pitfalls!
March 3 | 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM

All things worth pursuing have risks and projects are no different! Every project manager and organization must learn how to effectively manage risks to ensure success. In this course, you will learn to plan, identify, analyze, and ultimately mitigate risks appropriately for your project and organization. This course is designed to provide experienced leaders ways to better manage risks within their project or organization. By the end of this class, you will be familiar with how to identify risks, perform two types of risk analyses, respond to risks, and ultimately control these risks.

Meet the Instructor

Chris Grassmuck is a certified PMP and CSM Project Manager with over 20 years’ experience in the DoD and Public Sector. He currently serves as a Senior Project Manager with IBM supporting a federal client in a large enterprise engineering and integration effort. Mr. Grassmuck also serves as Vice-Chair for the PMIWDC Shenandoah Valley Community, instructor for Lord Fairfax Community College Workforce Solutions, and board president for Insight Memory Care Center.
